For Aboriginal people, passing on knowledge from person to person by talking to them and demonstrating how they do things is an important value. Thus, history, traditions, knowledge and beliefs are passed down from generation to generation.
Elders play a special role in this transmission: they hold the wisdom of previous generations and it is their responsibility to pass it on. They tell stories and legends that carry the knowledge, values and history of their people.
Young people and adults therefore have great respect for the elders, carriers of wisdom.
