Entrepreneurship is the creation of new businesses. It helps diversify the economy through having a variety of businesses, which makes a community stronger and able to create jobs.

In Aboriginal communities, there are businesses that:
– Harvest natural resources: wood, gathering, hunting and fishing
– Are involved in processing and development: food preparation, construction
– Provide services: education, health, stores (grocery store, hairdresser, restaurant …)
– Welcome tourists: museum, craft shop, cultural center

Some Aboriginal businesses are created by one Nation or even several Aboriginal Nations together, such as the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN), which creates and broadcasts programs designed by and for Aboriginal people in Canada: more than 75% of APTN employees are Aboriginal.
