Fauna refers to all of the animals that live in a natural environment.
Wildlife played a central role in Aboriginal cultures because animal fur, bones, meat and fat were resources used to make food, clothing, shelter and tools. The fur trade with the Europeans also played an important role in the lives of Aboriginal people for a long time.
For these reasons, the Aboriginal people still have great respect for animals; for example, they make sure to thank the animal for giving its life to the human during the hunt.
Today’s Aboriginal people only hunt for their personal or community use, since the law does not allow the commercialization of hunting products.
