Inuit art is very ancient. In the past, the Inuit created objects of art and useful objects related to hunting and fishing, such as harpoon and spear tips, snowshoes, moccasins and fur coats.

Later, the Inuit started sculpting, painting, drawing and engraving.

Today, for traditional sculpture the Inuit use walrus tusks, caribou antlers and whale bones. They also use a type of stone called steatite. The artists portray animals, such as polar bears and walrus, and real or imaginary characters and scenes related to life and spirituality.
