In the past, the forest played a central role in the Aboriginal way of life. Today, forest-related traditions are still part of Aboriginal cultures.
Besides providing materials for making everyday objects (means of transportation, shelters, weapons), the forest was also the place where they found most of their food, including animals from hunting, and plants and berries from gathering.
Today, many Aboriginal people (and non-Aboriginals!) like going “into the woods” to reconnect with the traditions of their ancestors, to hunt, fish or gather.
Aboriginal people who live in the forest can also earn their living as guides or by working in the forestry industry.
