In the past, First Nations peoples lived in wigwams or longhouses. In the summer, some Aboriginals travelled in bark canoes. In the winter, they used snowshoes.
These peoples lived on hunting, fishing and gathering berries. Some practiced agriculture and grew corn, squash and beans.
The Inuit lived in igloos. In the winter they travelled on dog sleds and snow shoes. In the summer, they used kayaks or umiaks on rivers and streams. For food, the Inuit mostly ate meat, such as caribou, seal, walrus and even polar bear, and also fish, such as the Arctic charr. In the summer, they also ate berries and other plants.
