The Inuit live in Nunavik, in northern Quebec. There, the winters are long. The summers are short and cool.
In the past, the Inuit lived in igloos and travelled on snowshoes and dog sleds. Today, they live in villages of modern houses and travel by snowmobile, all-terrain vehicle and car. The children go to school and play sports, like hockey and baseball.
At the heart of this modern life, the Inuit still want to live in harmony with nature. Hunting and fishing are an important part of their lives, even if they buy their food at the grocery store. Some simply fish for pleasure, while others fish to feed the family.
They also hold jobs, for example, as teachers, tourist guides, mine workers or doctors. Some Inuit also continue to practice the arts, such as sculpture, engraving and drawing.
