In the past, Aboriginal peoples moved around the territory on foot, wearing moccasins. In the winter, snowshoes helped prevent them from sinking into the snow, toboggans allowed them to transport their equipment, and the Inuit used dog sleds to travel long distances.

Aboriginal peoples also navigated waterways to travel quickly, using the canoe, the kayak and the oumiak. These boats were made of various materials found on the land: bark, leather, bone, and wood.

Today, Aboriginal people drive cars, trucks, all-terrain vehicles, snowmobiles and motor boats. Traditional means of transportation are still sometimes used for hunting, fishing and outings in nature.
