Aboriginal women in Quebec are committed to improving their living conditions for themselves, their families and all First Nations and Inuit. To do this, they come together to share their ideas, for example, in the Quebec Native Women Association. This organization campaigns to governments for equal rights. Its members set up projects for health and education. They promote non-violence, whether in relationships between men and women, between parents and children, and in society in general.
In communities, the women create businesses that showcase traditional culture and crafts. They organize projects to transmit knowledge to children and take care of the elders.
Recently, the Government of Canada initiated a national inquiry into the abuse and disappearance of many Aboriginal women. This investigation came after several years of efforts raise awareness on the injustices and crimes they are suffering.
