  • Before reading, lead a discussion with students about their knowledge of Aboriginal people of the past and present.
  • While reading, draw their attention to the cultural objects mentioned, and past and present ways of life.
  • After reading:
    • Invite students to participate in the categorization activity. This activity works very well with a group using a IDB and a keyboard;
    • Do the activity.

Teaching avenues

  • Before reading, invite the students to pay attention to the different characters, what they like, their favourite activities, etc.
  • While reading, ask students about the content of the illustrations and story as it relates to the characters.
  • After reading:
    • Do a group brainstorm about the character traits identified for each character;
    • Do the activity.
