Flora includes all of the plant species (flowers, plants, fruit, trees) that grow in a natural environment.
For the Aboriginal people, some plants were very useful: they were used for food, healing, ceremonies and making objects. For example, berry gathering was important for providing food. Some plants rich in vitamin C, such as the cedar, helped prevent diseases like scurvy; salacin, which was used to make herbal tea, played the same role as aspirin today (whose scientific name is acetylsalicylic acid).
In some ceremonies, sweet grass, tobacco or sage were used for purifying purposes or to create a positive atmosphere for gatherings.
Bark, branches and roots were used to make canoes, baskets and hunting decoys.
