When they first arrived in North America, the First Peoples adapted to the very different environments in which they settled: resources and the climate led them to create different types of homes, transportation, ways of life (including food) and customs.
With the creation of reserves, the First Nations had to settle in villages located in places the government chose. They therefore had to change their lifestyles, for example switching from a nomadic to a sedentary lifestyle. They also had to learn how to use the natural resources of lands that were often much smaller than before.
The history and legacy of the First Nations and Inuit have therefore shaped a variety of lifestyles according to where they live.
