A role model is someone who inspires others to do their best. Role models help community members act positively and improve their lives. People who have created significant changes in society or in people’s lives are often role models. They can be artists, political figures, figures from the past or just people whose actions we admire. Everyone is inspired by role models!
Several role models inspire Aboriginal people in Quebec. Artists like Samian and Natasha Kanapé Fontaine inspire everyone with their creativity in blending traditions and their imaginations. Politicians like Ernest Ottawa and Ted Moses are admired for what they have done for their people. People of action are important role models, people like Stanley Vollant and Theresa Spence, because everyone can see the values of courage and perseverance in them. Throughout history, people like Louis Riel who championed Métis rights have also become role models.
