In order to survive, the first inhabitants learned how to use all of the resources in their surrounding environments: forest, seaside and tundra in the North. They sharpened their sense of observation to find food, shelter, clothing, warmth, protection, etc.

Aboriginal people thus developed hunting and fishing techniques and acquired knowledge about animal behaviour and the properties of plants.

Even today, some Aboriginal people use this traditional knowledge to practice trades such as tourist guide, park warden or botanist.
