Some values are especially important for Aboriginal people: attachment to the land, respect for all living things, freedom, family. As in all societies, with the passage of time, these values are experienced in changing contexts: today, Aboriginal youth no longer live in the same world as previous generations. Yet they want to find ways to preserve this important part of their identity.
How? Through their traditions. By continuing to practice rituals such as those related to hunting. By dancing and singing at celebrations such as the powwow. Through using traditional objects, such as the crooked knife, in everyday life and in art. Through storytelling and legends too, ensuring that they are passed down from the elders to the youngest, to keep imagination and spirituality alive in a changing world.
